PM condemns racist attacks, calls for unity

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said yesterday she had been deeply affected by racist remarks directed at her recently.

She cautioned that Trinidad and Tobago could not survive if it remained caught up in “the language of division”.

Addressing the Office of the Prime Minister’s African Emancipation Day celebrations, Persad-Bissessar said she had recently been the target of “words rooted in deep racial prejudice” and admitted they had affected her.
