TWO PEOPLE were injured yesterday when a mini-bus was struck by a falling tree which knocked the vehicle off the North Coast Road.
Police said that around 1.30 p.m. the plain white coloured mini-bus, which plies the North Coast Road route from Port of Spain, was winding its way along the road but as it approached an area between the Maracas look-out and spring it was struck by a falling tree. The tree knocked the mini-bus off the road and it fell several feet down a precipice.
Luckily for the driver and passengers several other motorists saw what happened and immediately stopped to assist while others contacted the Police and Fire Services. A team from the Fire Service, Search and Rescue Unit based at the Santa Cruz Fire Station responded. Also responding were officers from the San Juan Fire Station as well as personnel from the San Juan Laventille Regional Corporation, the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government backhoe team.
