Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge and Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander have raised an alarm over the influx of contraband entering the nation’s prisons—including a 65-inch television delivered to an inmate.
Other items flowing freely into jails include mobile phones, drugs, and even firearms.
Speaking at the Caroni Central budget consultation hosted by Housing Minister David Lee at the Three Roads Community Centre in Freeport on Wednesday evening, Sturge highlighted the serious lapses occurring which he said are allowing prisoners easy access to items that enable them to continue their criminal activities from within their cells.
