President of the Prison Officers’ Association (POA) Gerard Gordon said that “it is deeply concerned by the recent incident at Teteron Barracks in which an officer was allegedly threatened by an inmate.”
“We wish to make it absolutely clear that threats against prison officers must never be treated lightly. Our officers continue to perform their duties under extremely challenging and often dangerous conditions while maintaining order, security, and public safety within the nation’s correctional system,” Gordon said.
He said the incident serves as another reminder that prison officers face real risks on the job every day.
