Young Cuban Attacked With Cutlass in Georgetown Standpipe Dispute

By Mark DaCosta- In an alarming incident that underscores the declining respect for human life, a 22-year-old Cuban man named David was brutally attacked in Georgetown, leaving the community grappling with the implications of such violence. The attack, emerging from a seemingly trivial disagreement over the use of a public water standpipe, raises serious questions about civility and the value we place on one another’s lives.

The shocking events began when David, filling his bucket at the standpipe, moved aside a bucket that belonged to a local man, now identified as the perpetrator. The older man, in his fifties, was angered upon returning to find his bucket displaced and confronted the young man. In a startling escalation, he left the scene only to return armed with a cutlass, viciously attacking David across the head and hand.

Witnesses reported the harrowing confrontation, as David attempted to defend himself, sustaining severe injuries. He was later transported to the hospital by a passing car after a neighbour, unable to find a wheelbarrow to take him to the hospital, sought to assist him. Medical assessments revealed that David suffered significant lacerations to his head and palm, alongside a concussion. The injury to his head has reportedly caused an impairment in nerve function, rendering his leg weak and unable to support his weight.
