A Venezuelan migrant man and a six-year-old girl are confirmed dead after a pirogue carrying about 30 people overturned off Los Iros Beach during an illegal sea crossing to Venezuela, with at least two other adults still feared missing.
Police said the tragedy unfolded shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday when a pirogue carrying several adults and children struck a rock as it approached Los Iros Beach, causing the vessel to overturn and throw its occupants into the sea.
According to investigators, many of those onboard managed to climb back into the pirogue, which then sailed away from the area.
