Abandoned Preysal school compound gets clean-up

TWELVE years after the doors of the Preysal Government Primary School were shuttered, the empty school compound was last week cleaned by members of the National Programme for Upkeep of Public Spaces (NPUPS).

An initiative coordinated by councillor for the area Anil Balliram was undertaken last week at the site of the abandoned compound, which residents complained had been overrun by grass, mosquitoes and vermin over the past decade.

The students of the school have been housed at the Preysal Community Centre since its closure. But weeks ago, the abandoned structure had been used by criminals as a hideout after a robbery, Balliram told the Sunday Express.
