A LOW election stunt and a disgusting and insulting attempt to buy votes.
This was how Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday described Prime Minister Stuart Young’s announcement that a $1 million ex gratia payment will be made to survivor Christopher Boodram and each of the families of the deceased divers in the Paria tragedy three years ago.
“This is the lowest election stunt he has pulled yet, and it reeks of desperation. This shameful act surpasses even his disgraceful behaviour on Eid day, where he was seen begging for votes while handing out $20 bills. The people of Trinidad and Tobago deserve better than this cynical and heartless attempt at political bribery,” said Persad-Bissessar in response to a request for comment from the Express via phone.
