Three years after four divers lost their lives inside an underwater pipeline at an offshore facility owned by Paria fuel and Trading Company and days before the general election, Cabinet made a decision on Thursday to pay an ex-gratia payment of $1 million to each family and survivor Christopher Boodram.
But the loved ones of the men who died inside the 30-inch (76-centimetre) pipeline some time between February 25 and 28, said they were both shocked and skeptical of the State’s offering.
“You cannot put money to life,” the sister of then 31-year-old Yussuf Henry, Affisha Henry told the Express shortly after Prime Minister Stuart Young made the announcement at a Post Cabinet Media Briefing in Port of Spain.
