A 37-year-old gold miner of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast has been sentenced to more than three years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of obtaining money by false pretence. Alex DaGuair was arrested on Thursday and charged on Friday with obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 194 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
DaGuair appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded guilty to the offence. Following his guilty plea, Magistrate Mohamed sentenced him to three years and five months’ imprisonment.
