Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander, who was then a Senior Superintendent of Police, paid a visit to inmate Rajaee Ali at the Maximum Security Prison in January of this year, at least four months before his surprise appointment as a minister in the UNC-led administration.
The Express confirmed the visit based on Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) internal correspondence obtained from police sources.
According to the documents, the request for the jail visit was requested by then-Assistant Commissioner of Police Richard Smith, who formally requested approval from his boss, Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin of the Investigations and Intelligence Unit.
