PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has addressed recent cases of domestic violence linking an increase in incidents to a celebration of bad behaviour.
She said abuse occurred daily and could involve both men and women as aggressors. She also argued yesterday that broader social behaviours were contributing to the problem.
In response to questions from the Express, she said: “It has become increasingly common because we are a society that celebrates bad behavior, lawlessness, feteing, horning, negative habits and unhealthy vices. We love the sweet life in Trinidad but as soon as it gets sour we are angry and take out that rage on others. The easiest people to take that rage out on is usually your family and that’s why we have so much domestic violence.”
