Woman Reports Alleged Abuse After Viral Couva Vehicle Video

UWI psychologist Dr Katija Khan is urging Trinidad and Tobago to stop normalising intimate partner violence and blaming victims after a social media video showed a woman being abused. She said abuse includes threats, control and intimidation, and called for safer media handling, stronger support services, and urgent accountability for perpetrators.

TTPS has launched an investigation after a social media video appeared to show a man abusing and threatening a woman inside a vehicle, with a report made at Couva Police Station. Police are urging people not to share the clip and are reminding domestic violence victims in Trinidad and Tobago to seek help, preserve evidence and apply for protection orders if needed.

A woman seen being beaten and threatened in a moving car has reported the incident to police in Couva, and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has opened an investigation through its Special Victims Unit. The video, said to show abuse after the couple left a bar on September 24, has renewed concern about domestic violence and victim privacy.
