Kamla commits to reparations plan

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-­Bissessar has unveiled an action plan aimed at deepening cultural recognition, economic empowerment, and reparatory justice for the descendants of enslaved Africans.

Delivering the feature address at the well-attended African Emancipation Day celebrations at the Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, yesterday, Persad-Bissessar praised the Emancipation Support Com­mittee of Trinidad and Toba­go (ESCTT) for its local, regional and global trailbla­zing work.

To honour the commit­tee’s contribution, she an­nounced that her Govern­ment would direct the rele­vant ministries to partner with the ESCTT on a focused four-point action plan to engender:
