One man was arrested and two firearms, several rounds of ammunition, and quantities of narcotics were seized during anti-crime exercises conducted by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB) on Saturday.
The exercises, which ran between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on April 26, focused on high-crime areas across the North Eastern and Port of Spain Divisions.
According to the TTPS, around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a playground on Upper Erica Street, Rock City, Laventille, where they approached the area tactically. Police Constable Sayers reported seeing a man in disheveled clothing who, upon spotting the officers, fled north. Although the suspect escaped capture, PC Sayers later conducted a search of the area and discovered a CPX-1 firearm with a magazine containing four rounds of 9mm ammunition. The weapon and ammunition were seized and taken to the Besson Street Police Station.
