THE Office of the Attorney General has accepted liability in a civil suit brought against it by 14 men who were arrested and detained, but never charged, in connection with the murders of two prison officers in 2021.
They were detained at various police stations for periods ranging from 35 to 60 hours, questioned by investigators, and some of them even threatened with death if they did not provide information on the murders of Nigel Jones and Trevor Serrette, according to the statement of case.
On February 28, Justice Margaret Mohammed entered judgment in favour of the 14 men on the issue of liability after attorneys for the State proposed a compromise of the court action.
