EIGHT police officers charged with the 2020 triple killing in Morvant—a case that triggered public outrage and protests in several Port of Spain communities—have now been committed to stand trial for murder in the High Court.
The committal was ordered on Friday following the conclusion of a sufficiency hearing before Master Margaret Sookraj-Goswami, who ruled that the prosecution had presented enough evidence to require the officers to answer the charges before a judge and jury.
The men—former members of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF)—are charged with the murders of Joel “Lion” Jacob, 38, his childhood friend Noel Diamond, 46, and Israel Moses Clinton, 27, who were shot and killed during a police operation at Juman Drive, Second Caledonia, Morvant, on June 27, 2020.
