Part of the popular Chinese Garden Restaurant on the Eastern Main Road in Sangre Grande was destroyed after a kitchen fire broke out on Sunday morning.
Police said the fire started around 10:40 a.m. while an employee was frying wontons. She told investigators that the wok suddenly caught fire.
Restaurant owner Jimmy Chow, who lives above the establishment, rushed to assist but suffered burns to his hands, back, neck, and shoulders while trying to extinguish the blaze. Relatives took him to the Sangre Grande Hospital for treatment.
