St. Joseph police are investigating an assault with intent to rob that left an elderly couple injured in their Valsayn home on Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, around 3:30 p.m., a 37-year-old woman was alerted by her seven-year-old stepdaughter that her step-grandmother was being attacked by an unknown man. She entered the living room and saw the suspect, described as an East Indian male, medium build, brown complexion, wearing green three-quarter pants and bare-chested, assaulting the elderly woman. Another resident, an elderly man, was also trying to fend off the attacker.
The informant went outside to alert neighbors and call the police. Upon returning, she observed the suspect walking away from the residence. Investigators later found blood throughout the house, including in the porch, living room, corridor, and kitchen.A bloodid knife was found on the kitchen floor. The living room had been ransacked, though nothing was taken from the home.
