Million-dollar prison contraband trade exposed

A million-dollar underground economy is thriving within the nation’s prisons, Prison Officers’ Association general secretary Lester Logie has said.

Logie made the disclosure yester­day during an interview on TV6’s Morning Edition programme. His response came in relation to an Express article titled “Prisons Service vows crackdown” which was published yesterday.

In that article, acting Prisons Commissioner Elvin Scanterbury had vowed to tackle rogue officers “head-on” after Monday’s arrest of an off-duty woman prison officer who was allegedly attempting to enter the women’s prison with contraband.
