The People’s National Movement (PNM) says it is “seriously concerned” about the Prime Minister’s sudden decision to immediately restrict all fetes and parties at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and Jean Pierre Complex to a limited number of days and hours close to Carnival.
While acknowledging the need to address concerns raised by surrounding communities, the party said the manner in which the announcement was made is “troubling.” It noted that major adjustments of this nature, particularly during the Carnival season, require careful planning, open dialogue and fair notice to those affected.
According to the statement, the abrupt approach has created uncertainty for residents and for the thousands of citizens whose livelihoods depend on the Carnival economy.
