The Trinidad and Tobago Promoters Association (TTPA) has condemned the Government’s decision to ban the use of all UDeCOTT facilities, including the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, for Carnival and entertainment events, describing it as a “destructive and short-sighted” move that could cripple the country’s tourism and entertainment sectors.
The ban, which took immediate effect this week, was announced less than 100 days before Carnival 2026. It affects major events already booked for venues such as the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, the International Waterfront Centre, and Invaders Bay.
According to UDeCOTT chairman Shankar Bidaisee, the decision is meant to protect the facilities from damage and reduce noise pollution, noting that the stadium “was not built for fetes” and costs up to $15 million a year to maintain.
