An accidental discharge of a police firearm at a polling station in L’Anse Fourmi on Monday morning caused minor damage to the building, but no one was injured, authorities have confirmed.
Police reported that an officer had just been posted for duty at Polling Station #4994-02 at the L’Anse Fourmi Community Centre around 5a.m. While checking his firearm inside the station, the weapon accidentally discharged, striking a wall on the northern side of the building.
Responding officers immediately attended the scene and observed the damage. The Presiding Officer at the polling station, along with her staff who were assisting voters at the time, reported that they were physically unharmed but shaken by the incident.
