Al-Rawi: Drug bust 'a big win'

OPPOSITION Senator Faris Al-Rawi has congratulated the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard and its international partners following the interception of a vessel carrying 440.20 kilogrammes of cocaine with an estimated street value of $204.5 million. The seizure was made in the northern Gulf of Paria on Monday and four men were detained.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament on Tuesday, Al-Rawi, a former attorney general, said the drug bust represented a 'huge win' in the fight against crime and drug trafficking.

'Congratulations to the armed forces of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard that has had that intercept. It's no secret the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) has been working with the Trinidad and Tobago forces for decades. I've done a lot of work with the DEA. This present Government will be doing a lot of work. Sharing of intelligence is important, so a huge win for crime fighting in Trinidad and Tobago,' Al-Rawi said.
