Leader of Government Business Barry Padarath has called for Hinduism to be respected as he disclosed that no taxpayer money was spent to host the historic first Divali celebrations at the Red House last Friday.
He further called on elements within the People’s National Movement (PNM) to stop fuelling hate against Hindus and respect the religion as they do all faiths.
Responding to questions from the Express yesterday, Padarath said Government MPs personally financed the event, including the decorations, refreshments, Ramleela performance and even the Divali gift presented by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles.
