A car belonging to Massy Motors collided with a utility pole on the Palmyra Public Road in East Canje on Friday night, leaving two men in critical condition at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. According to Police sources, the accident occurred at about 23:30h and involved motor vehicle PYY 5455, driven by a 40-year-old resident of Number Two Village, East Canje, Berbice. Also in the vehicle was a 41-year-old of the same village.
According to reports, the vehicle was proceeding along the Palmyra Public Road when the driver reportedly lost control, crossed driving lanes, and slammed into the utility pole. The impact of the collision left the vehicle extensively damaged, with its front end torn away, the roof crushed and the driver’s side badly mangled. The force of the crash also caused significant damage to the utility pole.
Police who responded to the scene found both occupants unconscious inside the wrecked vehicle. They were removed from the vehicle and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where doctors treated them for head injuries and internal bleeding. Both men remained in the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit under observation up to the time this report was prepared. Due to the driver’s injuries, investigators were unable to administer a breathalyser test.
