A private motion by Arouca/Lopinot MP Marvin Gonzales calling on the Government to outline measures being taken to address water supply issues failed to proceed in the House of Representatives this afternoon because of “a procedural problem”.
MP Gonzales failed to say “I beg to move” at the end of his 45-minute presentation, prompting House Speaker Jagdeo Singh to suspend proceedings for 15 minutes to review the relevant rules.
“You never beg to move your motion after your time had expired. That’s the problem. So what are we going to do? Hang on a second. We are going to suspend for 15 minutes. We are going to check the standing order to see whether the motion survives.”
