SIXTY-YEAR-OLD David Greeves died after he attempted to save his home which caught fire while he was getting set to cook on a fireside on Sunday.
Greeves sustained injuries to his legs and was taken to hospital to be treated for these and for smoke inhalation. However, he died from his injuries.
Prior to this, he told the police that he was preparing to make a meal on a fireside and accidentally threw too much gasoline to accelerate the fire. This caused a sudden blaze and the ten-by-ten galvanised iron structure in which he lived and the surrounding bushy area along the Navet Road in Mon Repos become engulfed by the flames.
