Police have arrested a 44-year-old miner following the discovery of 36 pounds of cocaine concealed inside frozen fish during an intelligence-led operation at Richmondville, Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Sunday. According to police, ranks conducted the operation on Sunday during which they intercepted a motor vehicle being driven by the 44-year-old man, who was the sole occupant.
A search of the vehicle was carried out, resulting in the discovery of two bags containing frozen fish in the trunk. Further examination of the fish reportedly uncovered several parcels containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. Police recovered a total of 15 parcels containing the suspected narcotics from the frozen fish. The substance was weighed and amounted to 36 pounds before being lodged as evidence. The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, along with the suspected cocaine and the motor vehicle. He remains in police custody as investigations into the discovery continue.
