(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) has spent $44.1 million so far this year on the training of prison officers and the rehabilitation of inmates, as part of efforts to reduce recidivism and improve the reintegration of prisoners into society.
According to the Ministry of Finance’s 2026 Mid-Year Report, the GPS is seeking to reinforce its commitment to lowering recidivism rates through increased training and rehabilitation programmes.
During the first half of the year, 268 prison officers benefitted from training, including advanced prison management and human rights-focused programmes.
