RESIDENTS in remote communities could have their court matters heard closer to home under a proposed mobile court system that would see magistrates, court staff members and police officers travelling to designated locations to deliver justice.
Chief Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh said yesterday the Judiciary was examining ways to take court services into communities such as Toco, Cedros, Moruga, Charlotteville and Roxborough, where residents often have to travel long distances to attend hearings.
Under the proposed arrangement, cases involving people from the same community would be grouped and heard on designated days at facilities such as community centres, which would be temporarily converted into courtrooms.
