Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has condemned growing division in the national conversation, warning that racial division, political hostility, and disrespect are threatening Trinidad and Tobago’s unity.
Speaking at the Office of the Prime Minister’s African Emancipation Day celebrations on Thursday, the Prime Minister spoke about being personally targeted by criticism, saying the greater concern is the damage divisive rhetoric can cause to the nation.
She said public discourse has, at times, deteriorated into hostility and racial division.
