(Kaieteur News) – A new $1.03 billion market facility will be constructed in New Amsterdam, Berbice, replacing the town’s existing market, which is in need of significant repairs.
The project is being undertaken by the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development through four contractors, with construction expected to commence within two weeks.
A ceremonial sod-turning ceremony was held at the market on Friday and was attended by Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Priya Manickchand, Regional Chairman Junior Bassant, Regional Executive Officer (REO) Ronald Harsaywack and New Amsterdam Mayor Wainwright McIntosh.
