NA municipality receives govt. subvention after months of delay

(Kaieteur News) – Following months of waiting, the New Amsterdam Mayor and Town Council (M&TC) has finally received its promised $50 million annual subvention from central government.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand, handed over the funds to Mayor Wainwright McIntosh and the council while spearheading the sod-turning ceremony for the construction of a new market for the town.
The belated presentation came seven months after the passage of the 2026 National Budget in the National Assembly, during which the allocation was announced.
