APNU rejects govt’s plans to integrate Linden onto national grid

(Kaieteur News) – The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) on Friday rejected government plans to integrate Linden into the national power grid by 2029, as outlined in the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) Development and Expansion Plan 2026–2030.

This publication asked former mayor of the mining town, Sharma Solomon, to comment on the proposed integration and what it could mean for Linden. Solomon said the current power purchasing arrangement between GPL and BOSAI would be preferred, as the community understands how the system works.

Solomon also reminded that history has shown why Linden is entitled to affordable, reliable and sustainable electricity, noting that residents have benefited from such arrangements for about 50 years through agreements such as the old bauxite agreement and the 21st of August Agreement.
