The couĀple, who live at Blanchette Bay, Monas, were reĀportĀed missĀing afĀter a famĀiĀly friend reĀceived a disĀtressĀing voice note from a forĀeign numĀber in which DerĀrick said he had been kidĀnapped and ādey have meh and want 2.5 milĀlion US for meh reĀlease.ā
The mesĀsage was passed to the couĀpleās son, Phillip Tardieu, who went to his faĀtherās home and found it ranĀsacked, with no sign of eiĀther parĀent. AtĀtempts to reach DerĀrick by phone were unĀsucĀcessĀful.
The matĀter has been reĀferred to the AnĀti-KidĀnapĀping Unit, and inĀvesĀtiĀgaĀtors are workĀing to verĀiĀfy the auĀthenĀticĀiĀty of the ranĀsom deĀmand and trace the couĀpleās whereĀabouts.
