A US$2.5 million ransom has been demanded for the safe release of 70-year-old Derrick Tardieu and his 47-year-old wife, Claribel.
The couple, who live on Monas Island and operate a boat yard in Chaguaramas, was reported missing on Saturday night.
Police confirmed that a relative recieved a message on his cellphone at around 9.44pm, of Tardieu's voice saying “dey have meh and want $2.5 million US for meh release.”
