Masked bandits shoot, rob businessman of $720K in gold chains

(Kaieteur News) – A 38-year-old businessman was shot in the leg and robbed of three yellow metal chains valued at approximately $720,000 during an armed robbery at ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, late Saturday night.

Police said the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on September 19, 2026. According to preliminary investigations, the businessman was in his yard using his cellular phone when he was approached by two unidentified men, who were reportedly wearing masks and reflective vests.

One of the suspects was allegedly armed with a handgun. Police said the men confronted the businessman and attempted to relieve him of the chains that he was wearing. During the confrontation, a round was discharged, striking the victim to his right leg above the knee.
