24-year-old woman now 4th Corentyne crash victim within 1 week

…discharged from NA hospital, readmitted hours later, dies days later

A 24-year-old Letter Kenny Village woman has died several days after she was injured and trapped inside a car that crashed into a trench along the Auchlyne Public Road, Corentyne. Reanna Ramkisson became the fourth person to die following separate accidents along the Corentyne Highway in just over one week. The accident occurred at approximately 22:20h on September 14, while Ramkisson was travelling in the front passenger seat of motor car, PYY 6384. The vehicle was being driven by a 25-year-old of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam. Information reaching this publication indicated that the car was travelling west along the southern driving lane at a fast rate when a donkey reportedly ran from south to north into its path. The driver reportedly swerved to avoid the animal but lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the roadway and ended up in a trench on the northern side. The driver managed to exit the vehicle, but Ramkisson remained trapped inside. She was subsequently removed with the assistance of public-spirited citizens and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. Ramkisson was treated for fluid in her lungs and kept under observation before being discharged at approximately 11:00h the following day. However, about three hours later, she was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after complaining of feeling unwell. She was readmitted and placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she remained for several days before her death. Relatives declined to comment when this publication visited the family following Ramkisson’s death.

Police were informed of the accident shortly after it occurred and visited the scene. However, up to the time of publication, the Police had not publicly released information about either the accident or Ramkisson’s subsequent death. Her death follows three other fatal accidents along the Corentyne Highway. Fourteen-year-old Giresh Lautan of Number 52 Village died following an accident at Number 50 Village, while 19-year-old Albion Sugar Estate worker Danesh “Brian” Prabudial lost his life when the motorcycle he was riding crashed at Albion.
