19-year-old dies in Berbice motorcycle crash

A 19-year-old Albion Sugar Estate factory worker died early Saturday morning after the motorcycle he was riding reportedly crashed into a utility pole along the Albion Public Road, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne). Dead is Danesh Prabudial, called “Brian,” of Lot 595 Belvedere, Corentyne. According to reports, the accident occurred at about 00:45h as Prabudial was proceeding west along the southern driving lane on motorcycle CK 360, which is owned by 22-year-old Shahid Mohamed. Police said Prabudial, who was not wearing a safety helmet, reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a lamp pole on the northern side of the road. The impact threw him from the motorcycle onto the roadway, where he sustained injuries. He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited persons and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival. Prabudial’s mother, 46-year-old Kavita Prabudial, recalled that her son returned home from work at about 18:00h on Friday and left at around 19:00h to watch cricket with friends. She said it was sometime later that she received a telephone call informing her that her son had been involved in an accident.

When she arrived at the hospital, however, she was confronted with the news that he had died. “Just his face get a lil scratch, but he look perfect, like nothing wrong with he… And me tell dem, he ah sleep,” the grieving mother said. She said she is still struggling to accept that her son, whom she was accustomed to seeing return home from work, will no longer walk through the door. Kavita remembered her son as a well-behaved young man who enjoyed joking with others, had many friends and would assist around the home whenever something needed to be done.

“He was a very good child. He never fight or argue… He’s a good person,” she said. Prabudial was one of two young persons who died in motorcycle accidents on the Corentyne on Saturday. Fourteen-year-old Giresh Lautan of Number 52 Village, a Skeldon High School student, died after the motorcycle on which he was a pillion rider collided with a horse on the Number 50 Village Public Road. Both fatalities involved motorcycles and occurred on Saturday along the Corentyne.
