(Kaieteur News) – Guyana accounted for 62 per cent of all Caribbean exports in 2025, while average annual foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into the country surged to US$8.28 billion, according to the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB) 2026 Trade and Integration Monitor.
The report, titled Capitalizing on Resilience: Regulatory Architecture as an Asset for Attracting Foreign Investment, attributes Guyana’s growing dominance in regional trade and investment largely to the expansion of its oil industry.
According to the IDB, Guyana’s goods exports reached US$23.2 billion in 2025, representing an increase of 20.8 per cent over the previous year. Exports grew by a further 28.9 per cent in the first half of 2026. The report noted that Caribbean exports increased by 19.1 per cent during the first half of 2026, following growth of 12.2 per cent in 2025. However, it said this performance was driven almost entirely by Guyana and Suriname.
