(Kaieteur News) – Guyana’s goods trade is projected to grow by 15% in value this year, while higher hydrocarbon and commodity prices are expected to deliver one of the largest improvements in the country’s terms of trade across Latin America and the Caribbean, according to a new report by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
The findings are contained in ECLAC’s International Trade Outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean 2026, which examines changes in global trade and the opportunities available to countries seeking to diversify their economies through higher-value exports and modern services. The report was released on Thursday last week. In its projections for 2026, ECLAC placed Guyana among the countries expected to record increases in the value of their goods trade. However, the country’s projected 15% growth is below the regional average of 20%.
The report’s chart measures changes in the value of goods trade and should not be interpreted as a forecast of Guyana’s real economic growth or oil production. ECLAC also identified Guyana among the economies expected to benefit most from improvements in their terms of trade, alongside Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
