A POLICE officer has been convicted of causing the death of a 70-year-old woman in a 2011 road crash at Bon Air Gardens, after a jury found that he had driven the police vehicle through a red traffic light and crashed into the car in which she was travelling.
The unanimous verdict against Brian McKenna was returned on Wednesday by a nine-member jury after a trial before Justice Maria Busby Earle-Caddle at the Hall of Justice, Port of Spain. McKenna was remanded into prison custody and is to be sentenced on October 29.
The prosecution’s case was led by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Dylan Martin and attorney Ananda Gobin.
