THE T&T Police Service’s (TTPS) School Oriented Policing Initiative (SOPI) continues in 2026, and is expected to expand into new institutions.
Speaking with the Express yesterday Deputy Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin said that the TTPS had received a positive response from the initiative and as a result, they are expected to meet with officials from the Ministry of Education to see how best the programme could be brought to new schools this term.
“There has been positive feedback for the initiative, and it has resulted in less fights, and just a general feeling of law and order and respect. We have added one more school to the initiative (bringing the number up to 51), and we are expected to approach the Ministry of Education to have discussions on how best we can further expand into other schools throughout the country,” Benjamin said.
