THE High Court has ordered the immediate release of a Sangre Grande attorney, who was arrested on Sunday afternoon for allegedly habouring the main suspect in the murder of 22-year-old Candace Honore.
Just before 6 p.m. yesterday, Justice Nadia Kangaloo, during a virtual hearing granted a habeas corpus application filed by attorney Bhimal Maharaj, who is representing the lawyer, who at that time of the hearing had been in custody for 75 hours without charge.
In delivering her ruling, Justice Kangaloo deemed the prolonged detention as unlawful, underscoring the vital constitutional safeguards of liberty and protection before the law.
