A Sangre Grande attorney was rearrested on Saturday and is now expected to be charged with perverting the course of justice in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Candace Honore.
The lawyer had been held without charge for more than 75 hours when Justice Nadia Kangaloo ordered his release during a virtual habeas corpus hearing on July 22. The judge ruled the detention unlawful, citing breaches of constitutional protections and the 72-hour limit for holding a suspect without charge.
But on Friday advice was sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, who approved a charge against the lawyer for attempting to obstruct the ongoing homicide investigation.
