$1.3M cash stolen in Corentyne break-in

Police are investigating the disappearance of $1.326 million from Target Logistic Inc at Williamsburg, Corentyne, after the money was reportedly left in a ‘cash tin’ on a counter when the business closed on Saturday. The discovery was made when the business reopened on Monday morning, with investigators finding signs of forced entry. However, computers, brand-new cellphones and other items of value were left behind, according to the report. Police were told that a 21-year-old customer service representative was left in charge of the business on Saturday while the supervisor, attended a meeting in Georgetown.

The customer service representative reportedly handled the day’s cash transactions while other employees assisted with dispatching packages to customers. By the end of the working day, sales amounted to $1,326,000. According to the information provided to investigators, the money was placed in a grey ‘cash tin’ and left it on a counter, and not secured it in the company’s safe. The business was closed shortly after 14:00h on Saturday and remained closed until Monday morning. On Monday morning it was discovered that three louvre panes had been removed from a window and part of the steel grill protecting it had been pried open. A door at the western side of the building was also found open. The ‘cash tin’ was nowhere to be found. Investigators believe entry was gained through the window and that whoever entered the premises subsequently left through the western door.
