Though pubÂlic conÂcern for the species grew afÂter an ocelot—afÂfecÂtionÂateÂly named “PaÂpaoutai”—was shot and left with seÂvere spinal inÂjuries earÂliÂer this month, the project had alÂready been unÂderÂway for sevÂerÂal months beÂfore the inÂciÂdent.
