Two police officers and a civilian sustained injuries in a two-vehicle collision along the Uriah Butler Highway near Freeport on Wednesday morning.
Initial reports indicate that around 3:05 a.m., a police constable was driving a marked police vehicle south along the highway in the left lane, accompanied by a female officer.
Approximately 100 metres before the John Peter Walkover, they heard a loud noise and felt an impact. The police vehicle spun and came to a stop facing northeast on the extreme right lane. They then saw the driver of a blue Mazda 3, which had ended up in a ditch on the eastern side of the highway, staggering as he exited the vehicle.
