Although the issue of seats for PriceSmart cashiers is currently before the Industrial Court, the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) argues that the matter should be resolved without court action.
The union is therefore urging the general public and PriceSmart members to speak out in support of the workers — most of whom are women — and push for immediate change.
Several OWTU members gathered yesterday outside the PriceSmart Port of Spain branch at MovieTowne, calling on the company’s management to provide seats for workers in the company’s Front End department at all locations, including Chaguanas, Mausica and La Romaine.
